Rules for Notes Searching

Notes searching is very different from Guided or Advanced searching, in which you can use many types of connectors to show relationships between terms. For Notes searching, however, the following search rules apply:

Question Rule
What connectors can I use on this form? AND and OR are allowed. Do not use wildcards (*) or truncation characters (!) when creating your search.

For example, if the author had entered the following in a note's description:dogs, cats, foodyou could search in the Description field for: dog OR cat AND food .

How are the text fields and controls searched together on this form? An AND is assumed.

For example, If you enter joe.smith@example.comin the Author's Email field andshampooin the Title field, the search will run asjoe.smith@example.com AND shampoo.

What types of content can I enter in each text field? Enter only terms, numbers, and characters (including spaces). For example:2003 plastic.
What is the character limit for each field? You can enter up to 4000 terms, numbers, or characters in any text field.
Can I enter multiple email addresses? Yes. Separate them with spaces or with an AND or OR. Again, be sure that you have the email address of the author exactly right or your results may be unsatisfactory.
What format do I use for class codes? This depends on your internal company classification system and can vary from company to company.
What types of results can I expect? The search will return exact matches of terms, numbers, or characters that you have entered. Be sure to check your entries before clicking Search.
